About Asian Lady Beetles |
|
America's native Lady Beetles are a natural control measure against harmful plant pests, such as aphids. Unfortunately that's where our friendship ends because dealing with [multi-colored] Asian Lady Beetles is whole different story! Asian Lady Beetles have become unwelcome guests for countless numbers of people. Unlike their American counterpart, Asian Lady Beetles come by the droves in early fall and can create havoc inside, all winter long. As the temperature falls outside, they're attracted by the warm rays of the sun beating on outside walls. They crawl inside through cracks & crevices, looking for a warm place to hibernate during winter. Then, on warm days during winter and in early spring, they become active inside and start looking for a way back out again. The most common Asian Lady Beetles here are mustard-colored to red, with 16 or more black spots. They have a black "M" on their thorax which makes them easy to identify. These creatures are known to bite or "nip" and [when squashed], they release a foul-smelling yellow fluid that stains walls and fabrics! |
